Business Writing Training: Business Writing Classes -What Your Formal Letter Template Can't Teach You
A formal letter template is very helpful because it speeds up the arduous task of composing business letters for you. It teaches you how to place the letterhead, how to type the date, how to capitalize the inside address, format the salutation and the body of the letter, how to situate the complimentary close, and how to maximize the functions of the signature block.
Your formal letter template may also contain other contents which are necessary in the documentation of letters within your company. These include the attention line, the reference line, the subject line, on-arrival notes, special mailing notes, and so on.
In other words, templates help you keep your business letters technically flawless. What it can't teach you, however, is the tone that your letter should take.
Once upon a time, business letters were eloquent and long-winded. Today, business letters need to be very clear (without appearing rude), precise, and to-the-point. The clarity required by business letter writing today is a double-edged blade for most businessmen.
On the one hand, it helps them state everything simply, and it ensures that there's no miscommunication between both parties.
